How to draw a Car

In this article, we will go over some basic steps and tips to help you get started with drawing a car, from sketching the basic shape to adding details and shading.

With a little practice and patience, you’ll be able to create a car drawing that you can be proud of.

Step 1

Start by sketching the basic shape of the roof. This can be a simple rectangle or a more complex shape, depending on the car you are drawing.

Next, sketch in any details such as the lines and curves of the roof. Look at reference photos or real cars to help you get the proportions and details right.

If the car you are drawing has a sunroof or moonroof, sketch in the shape of the opening and any details such as the handle or buttons.

Once you are happy with the overall shape and details of the roof, you can start to add shading and highlights to give it depth and dimension. Use light, sketchy lines to create the illusion of highlights, and use darker lines to create shadows.

Don’t forget to take the perspective into account, if the car is seen from an angle the roof will not be a flat surface, it will have to follow the perspective rules.

Step 2

Sketch the contours of the body over the basic shape. To achieve a more realistic look for your car, carefully sketch the outline of the car over the basic shapes you previously drew, giving the car a more fluid and smooth appearance.

Ensure that the frame of the car appears smooth and flowing, starting from the rear bumper, moving up to the top of the cab and down the hood to the front bumper. Note that some types of cars such as SUVs, trucks, or sports cars may have more pronounced angles and lines.

Step 3

Once you have finished sketching the first wheel of your car drawing, it’s time to move on and add the second wheel.

Locate the position of the second wheel on the car, it should be on the opposite side of the first wheel you drew.

Sketch in the basic shape of the wheel, starting with a circle.

Once you are happy with the overall shape of the wheel, sketch in the details such as the spokes, rim, and tire tread.
